What is Global Warming

October 24th, 2009 by greenbag No comments »

In the past several years, Global Warming has become one of the biggest debates, with scientists divided on if it exists, what (or who) is causing it, and if there is a solution.

There are contradictory scientific studies and papers on all sides of this issue. Is it a man-made problem, meaning that each and every person’s carbon footprint makes a difference?

Is it a bovine-made problem and every animal that produces bodily waste contributes to an increase in the methane in the atmosphere? Is it a “blip” on the natural climate cycle?

Scientists have been studying whether or not the earth’s atmosphere has been in a warming trend because of gases “stuck” in the atmosphere, which prevents the earth’s heat from dissipating, commonly called the greenhouse effect.

Simply stated, the greenhouse effect is the exchange of heat and gases between surface and atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is a natural occurrence; it is what keeps the earth at a habitable temperature, with the perfect amount of oxygen for humans, animals and plants.

Scientists who can agree that global warming is a problem also agree that there is no real solution. The industrial years of pollution, natural volcanic activity and the increased population have all led to the gases in our atmosphere; conservation simply isn’t enough to reverse the damage.

In short, the evidence indicates that the earth is warming up. Is it caused by man’s output of carbon, produced by our need for energy; or by animals output of methane?

What Is Reuse

October 24th, 2009 by greenbag No comments »

We have talked about recycling. You are probably wondering what ‘reuse’ means and how it can affect you and your community.

Reuse is very different from recycling. Instead of carefully discarding items that can be recycled to make new products, reuse involves using the items in another way, when their primary use is finished.

This reuse extends the life cycle of an item, which may eventually be discarded, but in the meantime, is useful and remains in circulation instead of gracing the top of a garbage pile in a landfill.

Here are some great reasons why we should reuse:

  • It extends the life cycle of an item and the initial time and effort that went into manufacturing the item.
  • It does not take dedicated skill and energy to produce a new item so these skills can be used to manufacture other, more important products.
  • It reduces the amount of manpower and pollutants that would be required to make a new item or recycle old material.
  • It reduces the materials and chemicals that must be recycled and those that might otherwise damage or impact our environment.
  • It costs less than purchasing a new product or disposing of an old one.
  • It can generate new business models and business opportunities.
  • It supports crucial charitable work and can provide additional money to fund this work.

    Earth Bag

September 29th, 2009 by greenbag No comments »

This is a medium size bag made of 100% natural cotton cloth. Good to use for any type of shopping specially for drug store.

It has both Short and Long Handle.

This bag is a real Green option. This is NOT made of Recycled Plastic or Polypropylene as other companies offers as a Green Option. Polypropylene or Recycled Plastics are still Anti Green in meaningful way.

Green Bag or food to fill the bag

September 29th, 2009 by greenbag No comments »

Being able to bring food on the table became a top priority. No time to think about Green life. It just like the story of chicken first or egg first. We are undecided to replace Polythene and Polypropylene bag for a reusable Cloth bag. The dilemma is no money to even buy food. So how can fill up a Green bag? Why that happened? What has been done wrong?

Every human action is connected to its consequences. Especially since 20th century the world became too addicted in over acting with so called industrialization. This action has tortured too much to our planet. Also this industrialization created a bubble of base less fragile economy and modern life. We just forgot about the harmony between Mother Nature and modernization.

Our planet has everything for us to lead our life if we take care about our planet. Same as a mother always has everything to protect her child. Green Life means leading the life which has a harmony with the Mother Nature. Not in counter of the nature. In order to be over industrialized we have serious problems related to health, nutrition, over stress, Spiritual, happiness etc. Now in top of all we have food shortage in our robotic life. That happened because of anti green life.

Now the question comes again. How can we think about investing in Green Life and Green Bag, if we even can not afford to buy food? The answer is it will be worst if we do not break through this vicious cycle and reverse the life into Green. Green life will bring us back into base. And Green bag is part of a Green life.

    Is Polypropylene bag Green?

August 22nd, 2009 by greenbag No comments »

Is the word Going Green being used to make a real social and cultural change in favor of Green choice? I have doubt about this in most cases. Every company are labeling Green in their advertisement, trade shows etc. It just became a new toot to market any product.

Let see the Green Shopping bag or Green Grocery bag. Everybody is trying to stop using the Polythene bag. This is the right way to start on. One time use of Polythene bag should be a Crime. It is oil based material. It consumes lot of Energy to produce. But the uses of these bags are just to carry something from the store to home and dump it after that. Because of low cost we are getting addicted more and more in using these bags. But what happen after we dump it? It starts to release CO2 in the atmosphere for 1000 years. Scientists say Polythene is not biodegradable. It may never degrade or take 1000 years to degrade. So, thousands of ploy bag dumped everyday are accumulating. It is dangerous. So, stop using Poly bag and think about alternative is the first right step to take.

But what alternative are we taking about? Most large companies are intending to put a Green label in the Polypropylene bag. They say it is reusable. But did they say that Polypropylene bags are exactly same as polythene bag in the method of producing and dumping after use? They did not mention that. They say it is Recyclable. Did they say how to recycle it? No, it is not possible to separate the Polypropylene from other material to recycle it. Also it costs very high the recycling process of polypropylene. So, what this mean? This is exactly same as the Polyethylene bag. They just want to keep making money at cost of our planet and humane life by labeling the Green Advertisements in the Polypropylene bag.

    About

August 21st, 2009 by greenbag No comments »

For those concerned about the state of our environment, they can do worse than leading the way by using recycle bags to help us go “green.” Trying to help by using recycle bags for eligible materials is also an intelligent action to take, because many cities and towns are starting to make recycling a requirement rather than an option. Also, they’re running out of places to put their trash, so the less that goes into a landfill, the better. Lastly, seeing something new come from the material that made up something else can be a satisfying thing.

Recycle bags come in different types and for different purposes. Mostly, they’re sorted by color or purpose. Recyclable metals go into one, paper products another, and glass yet another. Sometimes, there are just generalized products like wood, for example, that have their own bags. Most also have their own colors, like blue, brown, or green.

    What’s Recyclable?

Just about anything that can be easily broken down and isn’t filled with hazardous materials or chemicals. You wouldn’t just put a car battery through a paper recycling machine, for example. It would go to its own specialized recovery facility. The best candidates for recycling are aluminum cans, glass bottles, paper products and wood, sometimes. Most foods and similar garbage still go to landfills because they break down and dissolve away over time. Stop down at your town’s recycling office for more advice.

The City & the Large Super Market

September 1st, 2008 by greenbag No comments »

As I understand that, it costs more than 15 Cents for the City to handle one polythene bag once it is disposed after few hours of unnecessary use.

But the Giant Super Markets are giving away to the public every second thousand of these Polythene bags just to make money or make their Business. This circle are making the world worst every day. In addition to that, the cities are spending large amount of our Tax money to digest that Polythene bag.

What we could summarize about that dangerous circle? Why the City Mayors and its Legislation teams are not imposing a Green Tax for a Polythene bag use. It would save our tax money and reduce this environmental damage.

As I understand there are some manufacturer who offers Organic Shopping bag at less than 20 Cents. On the other hand Cities are still spending almost 20 cents to digest a Polythene bag disposed by the Super Market. So, if the City impose a Green tax of the same amount, the large Super Markets will start to use the Organic bag immediately.

The Super Markets are not taking that step voluntarily. So only the City can make that happened by imposing a Green tax of 15 or 20 cents for each Polythene bag used.
